Day Eighty Eight: Crazy

I have decided that I may have been suffering from temporary insanity when I decided to train for a half triathlon.  At the time, some nine months out, it did not seem like it would be as much of a challenge as it has been.  I do not know what made me think at the time that it wouldn't be a challenge, thus the insanity plea.  Well, here I am in the middle of it and I am too far now to stop, but seem to be so far away from where I need to be in August/September.

I had my first 5K this past weekend, learned a valuable lesson also, DO NOT RUN THE DAY BEFORE A RACE.  This may seem like common sense to some, again I would like to assert the insanity plea.  My calves felt like they would explode for a solid two miles.  I finally felt like running by the third mile.

I have scheduled some races for the summer.  I am registerd for the Cooper River Bridge Run 10K on April 2.  I am really focusing on that race right now, it's 6.2 miles, and half is uphill.  I am also registered for a 10K in Hartwell, GA, the Hartwell Dam Run.

I plan to register for a couple mini-tris this summer also, the first is the Rotary Sprint Tri in Statesville, NC on May 14.  Im excited to get to go back to NC and see some friends and also get to see what I can do in a triathlon situation, even though it will be very condensed.  I am also going to do the Lake Lanier Mini Triathlon on June 2.  I haven't registered yet for these two races due to the fact that I need my 100 meter time in the pool.

I am planning to do one cycling race also.  It is in Anderson and raises money for Greyhound rescue, on June 25.  I am debating how many mile to do right now, either 25, 40, or 60.

Each day is something new with this intense training and so many thoughts run through my head, no way that I can blog them all but I am going to make a new effort to write here at least a couple of times per week.

This challenge may be the hardest thing I have ever done physically in my life, but I believe it could also be the most rewarding, and I know I have learned a lot about perseverance.
